Government Policy and Growing Economy Will Help Brazil Capture a Large Slice of the Pharamaceutical Market

The industry research company IMS Research revealed that Brazil is likely to secure a large part of the pharmaceutical market worldwide. The country is, among with seven other emerging pharmaceutical markets (Russia, India, Turkey, South Korea, Mexico and China), likely to share a quarter of the global pharmaceutical industry in coming years, as reported by Outsourcing-Pharma.

Will the M&A boom cause mega-mergers in the cash rich pharmaceutical sector?

Global Mergers and Acquistions (M&A) activity reached record levels for the first half of 2007. Recent data from Dealogic has revealed a 50% surge in activity, with deals totalling some $2,780 billion. KPMG, meanwhile, has warned that, as the credit markets continue to struggle, the M&A frenzy is set to peak and the volume of deals will slow. So what does this mean for the cash rich, global pharmaceutical sector, which itself underwent frenzied M&A activity around the turn of the century but has subsequently slowed down?

Diabetics Will Drive Home Care Product Market Over The $10 Billion Mark

A report on the home care health product market says that diabetics and other people who suffer from chronic conditions, including cardiovascular diseases are shifting from being treated in hospital to being treated at home. FDA Investigates Possible Association Between anti-TNF Therapies and Cancer.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is to investigate a possible association between anti-TNF therapies and childhood cancer. Tumour Necrosis Factor (TNF) blockers have become the latest drug class to undergo a detailed FDA safety review, with the potential link between these agents and cancer, particularly in children and young adults, to be assessed. Although the review could increase prescribing caution of anti-TNF therapies for children in some physicians, ultimately it will not affect the use or sales of these agents in the near-term.
